Andrea Coates thinks a S.i/S: is this Great Work of Millennial Literature, a Classic of " GirlKore," that S.i/S: will get Attention because Andrea Coates is the First Person of her Generation to write a Coming of Age Novel of Such Depth and Magnitude, and about a Girl. " The Kind of Grandiose semi Autobiograpical Work so Relevant to 20th Century American Fiction and to Men, and yet, in Canada and by Ladies, More Often passed over in favor of Miniaturist Studies of Middle Class Catharsis, " said Coates. While Coates may defend the Rampant Sx and Drug Use in S.i/S: as " a Form of Spiritualism to be left to the inDividual to Direct in their Freedom ~ Anarky, " what I get from All the drinking / toking / popping / snorting / fucking that takes Place in S.i/S: is that Hap'e Blue, Coates' " Alter Ego, " is More concerned with enJoyment of Life than Any Other Social Cause. Which makes her an Anarkist, I guess, but in the Negative Sense we Anarchists as Community Builders are trying to dispel. People will call S.i/S: a Great Novel like they defend the Works of Henry Miller - not because it raises them to " New Heights of Understanding of Nature, " as Coates has said, but because it allows them to justify their Self Gratifications.

Andrea Coates calls her Self an Anarchist and yet she has created a Book that she her Self claims, " cultivates Canadian Identity and improves Canadian Pride. " What is Andrea Coates trying to say here? I think that in the End, Coates, in her Self Promotion, cares More about Fame and Sales in Canada than she does about dismantling Colonial Privilege and that, though she claims to, Andrea Coates doesn't Really question the Validity of Jingoism based in an our Storically Ignorant and Racist Authoritarianism.

3) Capitalism

Andrea Coates says she is opposed to Mass Production, Consumerism, Commodification and Capitalist Economics as a Primary Social Governor, yet she talks about S.i/S: as if it is going to be an interNational Best Seller that makes a Million Dollars or More. If Andrea Coates is Really so Concerned about Small Scale Regional Production and the Evils of " XS Wealth ", why she doesn’t she Self publish her Novel? Why doesn't she give it away for Free on the InterNet? Why does she buy Food from Grocery Stores and writing Novel, when she could be joining the Occupy Movement, or working on a Farm for Self Sustainment? Why doesn't Andrea Coates live off the Grid, growing her own Food or Dumpster Diving? The Truth is Coates' Concern for Grandeur of Reputation and Life Style is Greater than her Concern for the Eradication of Ecologically Harmful Capitalist Consumer Habits.

Andrea Coates says S.i/S: features a Feminist Protagonist, and yet the Most Emotional Parts of the Book are the Parts when Hap'e Blue almost gets married and Hap'e Blue realizes Motherhood is the Deepest Realm of her being. Not Only is Hap'e Blue obsessed with her Traditional Roles as Wife and Mother, she spends al'Most All the Book socializing with Men. The Womyn Friends Hap'e Blue does make, she looses in pursuit of Men. If Hap'e Blue had Numerous Lady Friends, was Inept with Men, or was a Lesbian, or if S.i/S: was about her Platonic Relationship with a Womyn, like Sheila Heti’s How Should a Person Be?, I would take this Book More Seriously as a Feminist Tract. As it is, it reeks of 3rd Wave Spice Girls " Sxe Feminism, " a Self Serving Patriarchal Trick played on Millennial Feminists by the Creators of Media that has convinced them they can meet Masculine Beauty and Personality Standards while remaining Free and Powerful Lady, which is a Contradiction.

5) Atheism

Andrea Coates says that she is a Pagan and that she does her Best to honor and do Good by the Universe, and yet the Hap'e Blue of S.i/S: is an Atheist with Little or no Regard for the Spiritual World beyond the Vague imPressions of it she gets of it from the Psychedelic Drugs she takes in XS. Even then, Hap'e Blue's Opinions remain in Line with Materialism. Sober for the First Time in Years, Hap'e Blue begins to look into the Xistence a Force Greater than her Self, but then she rejects it and spends the Rest of the Book alternating between Condescending and Confused when People mention Spiritual Matters to her. Hap'e Blue comes off Much More concerned with Sx, inToxication and Adventure than with the meta Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Truths of our Species and the Planet we live on, which brings me to,

6) Environmental Destruction

Andrea Coates calls her Self an Enviro Mentalist, yet there is no in Dication that Hap'e Blue is at all concerned with the Health and Survival of the Planet on which we All live. In S.i/S: Hap'e Blue is Totally pre Occupied with her Life and Pleasure. Hap'e Blue takes Air Planes and owns Xtravagant Clothing. She spends no Time at All honoring or reflecting on the Role of Nature in her Life beyond how having Ovaries impedes her from behaving " Rationally. " The Chapters on Tree Planting, Typically, spends More Time describing the Men and Parties than the Natural World that surrounds these Hedonistic Activities. The Tree Planting Industry, by the Way, was created to maintain Logging Companies, not Old Growth Forests.

7) Selfishness

Andrea Coates has said, " I wrote S.i/S: for the People of the Land I was born on and beyond, so that we could All come understand our Selves Better and be Kinder in the Future, " but I think the Only True Thing Andrea Coates has ever said about her Self or her Work is that she has " One of the Biggest Egos on the InterNet ". S.i/S: is no Thing but a Vehicle for Coates' Self Promotion. Rather than featuring Multiple Protagonists from Multiple Walks of Life, as the Sociological Novel should, the Well Educated Hap'e Blue's Adventures dominate S.i/S:.


From this and Earlier Points, I have concluded that Spelndid in/Sanity xists for no Reason but to tell the Story and enrich the Life of the Privileged Andrea Coates her Self.

I believe it is Clear from this Essay than Andrea Coates is a Fake, spouting off on Ethical Issues to attract Attention to her Self, sell her Work, get Rich, and move Some where she doesn’t have to think about these Issues Any More ( " HRTNRKFRM " is a Cover Term for Coates' Mega Mansion ).

The Myth of " Endless Growth " is Helpful in that it creates the im'Pression that if you don't Own a Mega Mansion and an SUV it's because you didn't work Hard Enough, rather than because Such Luxuries are inHerently Rare. XsWealth Brain Washing is Dangerous because it gives People the im'Pression these Luxuries are not Rare, and so we ravage the Planet to acquire them Each One of us.


It is a Shallow, Sick Culture that values the Surface Gloss of Consumerism over the Soulful Depth of a Life lived for One's Self, One's Community, and Nature. This is the Difference between a Hierarchical Society and an Anarkistic Society, and it is a Matter of Perception : in Hierarchical Societies, Some One is allways King, Some One is allways trying to be King and Some One is allways being subjected beneath the King. In Anarkistic Societies, All understand and recognize the Value of the Various Personal Talents that maintain Life in a Community. We live in Dense Consumer Capitalist Societies where we don't know 90% of the People we pass on a Day to Day Basis ( Commodification, the Essence of Capitalism, fosters Alienation by turning Every interAction into an Opportunity for [Monetary] Profit ), rather than inter Locking Cooperative Societies, where we know our Communities Closely, our Leaders included, and interact Freely with Similar, Sovereign Communities Nearby. Living Alienated in Dense Capitalist Societies divided along Vertical Class Lines defined by Wealth we Morally divorce our Selves from the Well Fare of Others. If they fail, it's their Fault or not our Business, rather than the Fault of imBalances of Power inHerent within the System. The American Dream mutates from " I am going to create a Better World for my Self and Others " to " I am going to get Rich at Other's Xpense or die trying. " It's Social Darwinism, a Cruel Perversion of Evolutionary Theory.

Consumer Items are Okay. But there’s a Difference between a Small, Locally Owned, Operated and Built Business that fits the Model of its Eco System, and a multi National Corporation that distributes Identical Mass Produced Goods in Identical Mass-Produced Buildings according to Identical Mass-Produced Business Plans to All Corners of the Globe, netting $, $$$, $$$, $$$ Profits for its Xecutives while forcing Millions of People into Factory Slavery and destroying Cultural and Ecological Diversity on Every Land it sets Foot on.

 
If Wealth is a Form of Social Credit, it’s Hard to Imagine Any One deserving a $, $$$, $$$, $$$. After a Point, Wealth so Far above Mean becomes Absurd, Gluttonous and Socially and Environmentally Destructive.

This is a Story a Friend Once told me : a Little Boy is born - let's call him Romulus. At a Young Age, Five, Romulus decides that what he would like from Life is All the Money in the World. You've read The Secret? From that Moment on, whereever Young Romulus went, he found Money! Small Amounts at First - $0.05 here, $0.20 there - but Consistently. Where was All this Money coming from? The Poor, of Course, were the First to loose their Change - $0.05 here, $0.20 there - but the Poor have alWays known how to get on without Money. So - as More and More of their Change vanished from their Pockets - to be picked up Hours Later by Young Romulus - the Poor turned to bartering the Objects around them.


Romulus, now Thirteen, began to find Even Larger Sums of Money : $60 here, $100 there! The Nxt to Loose their Money, of Course, were the Middle Classes, who - since the Poor had lost their Money - had Less Business and More Theft. Their Savings and their Investments and their Assets plummeted as All their Cash found its Way to Romulus.


With the Middle Class declaring Bankruptcy across the Country, so the Bottom fell out of the Banks! And when the Bottom fell out of the Banks - then it was over for the Rich, too. They were forced to trade their fancy Furniture for Food in the Barter Economy - just like the Poor! Romulus, now Eighteen, had All the Money in the World, a giant Pile of it - Coins and Cash to do him forEver!


But when Romulus went to spend this Money, what do you think Happened?




No One accepted it, of Course.





To desire Money, Wealth - in its Self - is a Worthless Ambition and to Desire Wealth at the Xpense of Others will find you made Worthless.






The Results of Wealth hoarding ( XsWealth ) are Evident All Over the Modern Globe. Nuclear Weapons point from One XsWealth Hoarder to an Other, lest they try to hoard Each Other.

Wage Slavery works like this - pay your Employee Less than the Value of their Labor, just Enough to get by, but not Enough to support Any Activity besides going to Work. Then, charge that Employee Greater than the Cost of the Production for the Necessities of Survival they their Selves helped create. As Crimethink points out in their Phenomenal Book, Work: " They've got you coming and going. "

The Masses, encouraged to buy Luxuries on Credit in the Belief, transmitted by Advertising, that this could be them, start making it them, en Mass, while the Drudgery that was Once their Lot is shifted to an Other UnderClass - this Time in Countries Far away. The Effects of this Mentality ( that Every One deserves Luxury Material Consumption - it's Good for the Economy and Good for People to live in a Bubble of Industrial Material Consumerism ) can be Witnessed, in its Devastation, on the Modern Globe.

I am a'Fraid I would be un Happy with Less Consumer Comforts than they had. I am a'Fraid my Parents would be un Happy with me if I did not achieve their Level of Consumer Comfort. As a Result, I repeat their Patterns of Consumption. In writing this, I am breaking out in a Cold Sweat with Fear I will not be able to repeat my Parents' Patterns of Consumption. I am consoled by reminding my Self that True Wealth lies in One’s Relationships with People, the Environment and the Spirit of the Universe, not in One’s Material Possessions. I will find a Balance between my Love of Certain Technologies and my Love of Mother Earth.

Some of the Most Grievous Perpetrators of XsWealth are the Children of the Mega Rich. As they did not struggle for their Advantages, Many of them invent Struggles as a Response.


The Lack of Guilt evident in the Perpetrators of XsWealth belays the Solipsism of XsWealth. This is supported by Studies that indicate the Wealthy are, on Average, Less Compassionate. How could One support One's Vast, un Warranted Wealth if One did not begin to believe in All Sorts of Absurd Reasons as to why this Wealth should be theirs a'Lone? Bret Easton Ellis's Books are Tremendous for illuminating the Moral Vacuum that xists beneath the Glittering Sheen of XsWealth. A Good Film for observing the Effects of XsWealth on Sapiens is Born Rich by Johnson's and Johnson’s Heir Jamie Johnson. Many of the People in this Film are Disturbing - in a Way Similar to a Lot of Upper Middle Class People I've known, Only More so - they display a Shocking Apathy and disIllusionment with the World beyond their Privilege, and with their Privilege itsSelf. For Xample, Many Young Heirs in the Film say that in their Family, they don't talk about Money. That's like Canadians not talking about Trees - bound to end Badly.

I guess if the XsWealth started talking Honestly about Money amongst their Selves they would be forced to admit they don't deserve the amount of it they have.

The Only Way that the Cultural Perversion and Environmental Disease that is XsWealth can be stopped is if Capitalism, in it's Elements, is dismantled and replaced by a Social System More geared towards Community, interPersonal Interaction and Ecology, rather than Company, Country and Economy - I call this New Society Anarkism.



Until that is Accomplished, and will Only be  when the Mass and Technocrats are altered as to how they are being drained by Capitalism and decide, en Mass, to take up Self Sustaining Activities, there are Reasons to keep from Despair : Artists have allways had a Greater Effect on Public Memory and ImagiNation than Xsively Wealthy Business People, even if they were Poor, because they are More inTeresting.
